Baby Shower for a Friend

My sister, Mom, and I threw a baby shower for a great friend who has just adopted a baby girl from Japan. Her little one is almost 3 months old and pretty cute. She was passed around and cuddled by all of the ladies at the party.

Most of the food was taken care of by my Mom and sister (because I don't cook or have any interest in food preparation), and my sister made some delicious deviled eggs and plated everything beautifully (really all I care about is how the food looks and how the dishes go together). I ate more eggs than I should have...and then I ate a couple of slices of chocolate cake...and I brought one home for another day.

I sewed a fabric banner for the mantle with several different colours and prints. Ava likes it and wants me to hang it in her room now.

On the mantle, food table, and on all of the large hanging pictures on the wall, I placed large flowers that I made out of tissue paper. As a gift I sewed a couple of owls - they can be placed on a shelf in the baby's room, or she can play with them when she's older. Ava loved them so I made a couple for her too, and she's been playing with them all week. She would like more so maybe this can be a project that we do together, and she can learn to stitch.

For a keepsake to look at years down the road, I purchased a fabric box and put stickers on coloured note cards. The guests at the shower wrote special words to the baby and family, and then Ava drew pictures of the baby and kitties on the extras. It was really cute.

There were many gifts of pink and purple and sequins...our present is the Dora bag that Ava decorated with ribbon and little butterflies. She helped out by handing my friend the gifts to open, and took tea and coffee orders from the ladies. She was the perfect little hostess....

I'm looking forward to our baby shower in December - Ava says that she will be opening all of the presents. She thinks that the baby may want to see the gifts too and come to the party. (She decided to come to hers...6 weeks early....) I hope that the baby waits until after New Year's....

  2. Interesting thing about your sister's "delicious deviled eggs" is that she doesn't even eat eggs.......just sayin' ;)
