Ava's 6th birthday Party

This weekend we had Ava's 6th birthday party at a gymnastics centre, and it was a great day. My husband and Mom took care of the snacks for the kids (and had some fine cheeses for the adults). My Dad and friends kept baby Maddie busy, and I decorated the room.

During the week I made the decor from my fabric stash. I cut out triangles from various patterned fabrics and sewed them to pink lace to create a fabric flag banner. I printed letters ("Happy 6th Birthday Ava") on the computer and adhered them with double sided tape.

For the table, I layed out several different fabrics to make one large tablecoth, and placed white poms down the center. I made the poms from paper doilies. Pretty pink and purple flowered napkins and green striped napkins from Ikea completed the table, as well as a balloon boquet for the birthday girl.

The kids had an hour of gym time whle the adults socialized and relaxed. When the kids came bounding into the party room we were ready for them with veggie trays and juice. Once everyone finished we brought out Ava's cupcake with a candle and sang for her. Then all of the kids chose a couple of mini cupcakes and I had some gluten free cupcakes for friends with allergies.

When we got home Ava was excited to open her presents....

Several of the kids made cards for her and we laughed at how many were cat themed.

Ava had a great birthday and is very happy to be 6 finally.

  1. I really love putting together my kids birthday parties. We both have a 1st birthday coming up in a few months that needs some party planning. How did that happen? Happy birthday to your 6 year old girly!

  2. I know - I'm savoring these last baby months because I know I'll miss this time. I think we'll have a small party at home for her....

  3. I love your table setting. The fabrics you used are so cute and such a nice change from a plastic princess or barbie tablecloth (guilty as charged). My favorite part were the white poms down the centre of the table. I may even use that for an adult party.
